Paczki, Pierogi & Polkas -- Feb. 28, 2017
Presented by Step On Bus Tours

Polish Churches in Detroit are the most opulent of all Catholic churches. Why? Polish Detroit was the political, cultural and social capital for  Polish Americans throughout North America as well. They wanted to bring some Poland with them when they emigrated to the U.S. And, they did.

We'll see two historic Polish Churches with docents leading the tour. the Poles

in America continued to reflect their deeply religious spirit in the new

environment.  These houses of worship are stunners. They are clustered but

where else .... Poletown and the old Polish neighborhoods of the City and in

Hamtramck.

Hear how the expressways, Poletown Plant and the exodus north saw the

move of many from Hamtramck, which is now an all ethnic neighborhood.

This Detroit tour is so interesting because it caters to the Poles and their

enormous contribution to Michigan.

But, there is nothing more wonderful than enjoying Polish baked goods. Singing Polish songs.  Eating a Polish Platter.  Czarnina, duck's blood soup sweet and filled with noodles is also available for travelers.

Still, there is a significant presence of the Poles in Hamtramck.  Polish and                                                                        Russian alcohol are available for purchase.  In fact, you can get a bottle of                                                                          Krakou with a cross, either to help the juice go down or to resurrect you                                                                              when it fires up the body.

Though heartbreaking, we'll see a decaying old Polish church. It's important                                                                      to the tour to see what once was so important to the Polish emigrants of the                                                                      early 1900s.

Moving forward toward Ash Wednesday, we'll taste the delicious heart                                                                                stopping Paczki, pronounced poonch-key! Heavy, rich and tantalizingly                                                                                delicious.

There'll even be a Polish dance lesson where "everyone does the la dee-da"                                                                        to quote Frankie Yankovich one the most famous Polish American Accordion                                                                      players.

Of course, we'll see statues and monuments to the great Polish People and hear some great stories about them, too.

And, we'll hear all about the significance of Polish Baltic Amber. You'll be surprised when you see the beautiful jewelry and it's hidden powers.

With a group tour, the experience is so much more enhanced because there is a guide at each stop geared to show and tell about the features of each location. These are things that wouldn’t be available on a self-guided jaunt.
